Award Details

Announcing a new opportunity for state titleholders in the Miss America system.  This cash scholarship is available to any state titleholder with Type 1 Diabetes. 

Eligibility: 

1. Be a state titleholder in the Miss America system.  (2023 - 2028)

2. Have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes prior to winning the state title. 

3. Be an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college/university. (Individuals more than 1 year post graduation do not qualify for this award.)

4. Complete a 250 word (maximum word count) essay on how you will make a difference in the diabetes community and provide your resume/bio with your current college/university listed.

5. Meet the eligibility requirements for participation at the national Miss America competition. 

This cash scholarship is established by Nicole Johnson, Miss America 1999, who has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since 1993.  Dr. Johnson recognizes the courage and tenacity required to achieve and wants to celebrate other young women with the same demonstrated commitment who are seeking scholastic advancement. The cash scholarship is intended to support academic endeavors.

Scholarship Amount: 

$500 per qualified applicant paid directly to the applicant.

Deadline for Application: 

December 1st of the calendar year in which you won your state competition.
